Southern California based Joyous Wolf formed in 2014 and have been wowing fans ever since. Its band members include Nick Reese (Vocals), Blake Allard (Guitar), Greg Braccio (Bass), and Robert Sodaro (Drums). And these guys just released their latest EP with Roadrunner Records, Place in Time today and it rocks! The seven-song album opens up with “Had Enough” a great tune with a nice Classic Rock meets Grunge sort of vibe. “Quiet Heart” is song two on the album is reminiscent of a Soundgarden jam. They slow it down with “Feel The Low”. It is a nice addition to the album with soulful vocals and beautiful guitar chords that flow perfectly together.
Throughout the album, Nick Reese, the singer of Joyous Wolf, shows the versatility of his voice. He has a classic sound and raspiness in his voice that reminds me of music greats such as Chris Cornel and Eddie Vedder. Each song gives you a different feel than the last and I really love that about this album. No two songs are the same. This is the perfect album to grab a drink, snag a seat then chill and relax too.
“Said Too Much” is easily my favorite songs on the EP and one of the heavier songs in this release. Blake Allard (Guitarist) knocks out some wicked riffs in it. The whole album takes me back to the Grunge Rock Scene of the 1990s but with a little more soul. If this was the sound, they were going for on this album then they definitely achieved it. Influenced by genres ranging from Delta Blues to Heavy metal, they have taken the best of those worlds and really made something unique to them as a band and have given us a really memorable EP in the process.
I think this whole album is really good and would give it a 9/10. I would have given Place in Time a solid 10 if had more songs on it.
