Ghost At Cool Insuring Arena In Glens Falls, NY 10-26-2019

Over the weekend, Ghost wrapped up their “Ultimate Tour Named Death” US run in Glens Falls, NY. The tour, in support of their 2018 release, Prequelle, started last year in theaters and had quickly lead them to filling arenas by the end. With bigger venues, Ghost was able to have their biggest stage show to date. The final leg of the tour featured support from Nothing More, who were also wrapping up their tour cycle for their 2017 album, The Stories We Tell Ourselves. Both bands are expected to hit the studio in 2020 and fans can look forward to new releases by 2021.

Nothing More hit the stage Saturday night in the Halloween spirit by dressing up as The Ghostbusters. The show featured an even mix of tracks from their last two records, which included songs such as “Jenny” and “Go To War.” Frontman, Jonny Hawkins, who always gives every ounce of energy he has into his performance was top notch. Throughout the show, Hawkins dealt with monitor issues and was noticeably frustrated. The frustration didn’t slow him down or plague the band’s performance the slightest bit though. By the end of the set, Hawkins’ Ghostbuster costume was off and he hopped on their “Scorpion” mechanism, which he controls during their “First of the Year” Skrillex cover. Before things wrapped up for Nothing More, they celebrated Hawkins’ birthday by having the crowd sing to him. The group also thanked Ghost for the opportunity and brought out their own crew for a final show toast.

As excitement built up in the venue and the house lights dimmed, the intro song to Prequelle, “Ashes,” hit the speakers and the Nameless Ghouls took the stage. Things officially kicked off with “Rats,” as Cardinal Copia strolled out on stage wearing an all red suit. Saturday evening featured a heavy mix of songs off of both Prequelle and Meliora. The band, which now features 7 Nameless Ghouls sounded incredible and the chemistry among everyone was perfect.

To celebrate the release of their EP Seven Inches of Satanic Panic, the band played both tracks, “Mary on a Cross” and “Kiss the Go-Goat.” Throughout the show, Cardinal changed costumes numerous times. Outfits featured his all red suit, white and a few versions of black. During each change, this gave the Nameless Ghouls time to themselves on stage. The group of them certainly have a good time without the Cardinal and draw plenty of laughter from the fans.

The arena production that Ghost was able to have was incredible. There was plenty of smoke throughout the set and “Year Zero” introduced huge pyro blasts from the back of the stage. At the end of “Mummy Dust,” confetti blew out from the sides of the stage which included Papa Nihil money. After the songs, Cardinal joked that sadly, the money wasn’t worth anything. Speaking of Papa Nihil, he made an appearance at the end of “Miasma” for his saxophone solo. The evening ended with “Square Hammer,” which is a change from their typical “Monstrance Clock” encore.  While the song ended, fireworks rained down from the top of the lighting rig, which was brand new for this tour.

Now that the Ultimate Tour Named Death is over in the United States, Ghost will be finishing up the Prequelle cycle overseas and playing a final show in Mexico. The “Final Show Named Death” in Mexico, is expected to be where Cardinal Copia gets taken away just like the previous leaders of Ghost were at their final shows. With Copia’s farewell, it’s still unknown whether or not another Papa Emeritus will emerge as the new frontman or not. Fans won’t find out the fate of the group until 2021 most likely.
