Blues Traveler At Red Hat Amphitheater In Raleigh, NC 8-4-2019

Written By: Zaneta Padilla

When you get three jam bands together, you can expect a chill evening of great music. That’s what moe. Blues Traveler and G. Love brought to the Red Hat Amphitheater August 4th.

Solo musician, G. Love opened the night with a guitar and harmonica. He sang old and new songs about peace and love. His set connects the entire audience with one another from toddlers to elders. He held a moment of silence halfway through his set to honor the victims of recent shootings in Gilroy, El Paso, and Dayton. Before closing his set, Ben Wilson of Blues Traveler joined to accompany him on keys for a song off his new album. He then brought his 4-year-old, curly-haired son on stage to play harmonica for his final song.

Blues Traveler came on stage next, opening with a “Devil Went Down to Georgia” cover that was phenomenal. In lieu of a fiddle, Popper’s harmonica played those quick licks. They played their classics, having the audience sing along to “Runaround” and “Hook,” closing their set with the rest of “Devil Went Down to Georgia.”

Before moe. closed out the night, there was a jam session where all bands members rotated and jammed out. G. Love and John Popper played a harmonica duo and the drummers of Blues Traveler and moe. switched seats mid-song without missing a single beat.

moe. closed the night out with their jam songs, that have Tool beat in length of songs. Their solos and riff showed the passion each musician has for their instrument, and it translated into the audience as they swayed and played their air instruments with the band.
