Betty Moon’s Hellucination

Betty Moon's Hellucination

Betty Moon is a different sort of pop artist. Moon brings to the scene with her music influences of EDM, dreamscapes, and invigorating energy. Each track is unlike the other but keeps to the unique style of dreamy-pop Moon has created. Her new upcoming album, Hellucination, is set to be released April 20 of this year. (Save the giggles.) This will be Moon’s eighth album since her debut self-titled album in 1991.

The first track of Hellucination starts off with “Dirty Love”, a psychedelic love song that you can’t help but mouth the words in the car. As opposed to the opening of Moon’s last album, Chrome, which immediately hit you with dance floor vibes compelling you to get off your feet and dance to the music. “Dirty Love” begins with a somber mood but develops into a hip-moving dance you can sing the catchy lyrics to.

“Figure It Out (Runaway)” is my new breakup song. With empowering lyrics and lustrous voice, Moon brings us track number three. The lyrics, “You ain’t gonna steal my fame. You’re just a coward now, a fool without a crown,” were embedded in my mind repeating over and over for an entire shift at my day job. Moon truly did have this song figured out.

“Save My Soul” is the teasing single released off Moon’s new upcoming album. Expertly chosen, track number four gives us a taste of what Betty Moon has in store for fans on her eighth album. The elements of melodic pop make this an instant replay on my playlist.

“Get Your Gun” reminds me of a slowed down Avril Lavigne song from her 2010s era. This song is, perhaps, my favorite of the album. Unlike the other songs on Hellucination, “Get Your Gun” is rather unique in the sense of its use of instrumentals. The guitar notes and drum hits tie together in an enticing way. Many of Moon’s songs include addicting basslines and drum hits, furthering her rock n’ roll attitude.

“Hands Full of Nothing” is a good representation of thick dream pop elements in a song. Track number six started us with EDM vibes before Moon’s voice broke us from a slight trance. With long drawn out notes, Moon’s voice is captivating. The mood set in this song is reminding me of dream pop artist, Hanne Leland.

“Crazy” is a finger-snapping, foot tapping good song. While I had expected more from the last track, “Crazy” is still a fabulous song in my book and a good ending to Moon’s new album.

Betty Moon will continue to be taking on the underground pop music scene by storm when her eighth album hits stores. Hellucination will officially make it to my playlist April 20.

If you aren’t familiar with Betty Moon, I definitely recommend listening to her past albums as well as her new single off of Hellucination, “Save My Soul, which you can find the official music video for on Moon’s YouTube channel or for free on her SoundCloud.
