Alter Bridge’s Walk The Sky

Alter Bridge's Walk The Sky

Alter Bridge just released their 6th studio album, Walk The Sky. This album is sure to be one of their best with the balance between heavy instrumentals, belting vocals and profound lyrical compositions.

The album art features a lone woman in red on a deserted beach turning into a flock of birds. The perfect image for the title “Walk The Sky.” It’s an image that I keep going back to study, especially with the lyrical content of the tracks. It gives a peaceful feeling of surrender that the closing track offers.

“One Life” is a cinematic opener for the album. At just over a minute, this teaser track with soft vocals and dreamy accompaniments lulls the listener to set in for the experience the rest of the album is about to bring. “Wouldn’t You Rather” sets the stage for the rest of the album with the heavy guitar opening. The lyrics are so deep that they encourage listeners to live their truth and never sell themselves out. All of these lessons, I’ve learned them so well. There is no gain worth the commerce of self. Wouldn’t you rather live from the heart, a life that will matter?”

“God Speed” is a comforting song for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one. The opening piano settles you in to really feel the song. The chorus is where comfort is found and offers the perfect words to say goodbye when those words can’t be found.Farewell, godspeed and goodbye. You have lived and you have changed all our lives. Castaway our regrets and all our fears, just like, like you did when you were here.”

“Dying Light” closes the album in a way that sends goosebumps through your body. From the chorus lyrics In the dying light, we learn to live when we give in to the silent waves that crash inside. In the dying light, we can begin to live again, when we wake up to eternal life”  that makes you feel a certain way, to the guitar breakdowns makes those words sink into your soul. Agreeing with a YouTuber commenter, if Alter Bridge decided to never make another album, this song and album would be the perfect capstone to their amazing catalog of music.

This album is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. I love the heaviness the songs bring, but every time I listen, I get something more out of each song. Every song is applicable and incredibly deep.
