Two time Grammy Award winning and multi-platinum album selling artist Travis Tritt played an acoustic set to a sold out crowd at the Berchmere on Tuesday night. Tickets for the show sold out weeks in advance proving that Travis still has what it takes to bring the fans out on a cold winter evening. Seeing Travis perform acoustically is a chance to see him at his rawest and purest form and gives fans a chance to hear Travis tell stories of his life and career in between each set.
The crowd was a mix of older and newer fans who all knew every word to every song and sang along with Travis on every one. Travis was in great form and fed off the energy of the crowd as he explained how much he enjoyed playing the acoustic shows, and how much he enjoyed playing at the Birchmere. The atmosphere of the venue mixed with a special acoustic performance, truly gave fans an intimate experience with one of country music’s biggest stars.
Travis gave the fans everything he had playing for over two hours with a setlist that consisted of over 20 songs, taking time in between each song to interact and tell various stories of his life and career with the crowd. During one story Travis broke in to the Bobby Bear song “I Wanna Go Home”, as well as “500 Miles” in what he described as Jerry Reed’s version. Travis also paid tribute to one of his heroes playing a medley of Waylon Jennings songs. Travis even played The Beatles’ classic “help” for the first time putting his own special twist on it making it his own.
With a career that is nearing 30 years, Travis’ voice shows no signs of aging and many could say it continues to get better over time. Seeing Travis live with his supporting band is always a fan favorite, but a chance to see him play an acoustic show in a small venue is truly a treat. At times it felt as if you were sitting in his living room listening to him play some of his favorite songs and listening to an old friend telling stories.
