Sons of Texas Forged by Fortitude

Sons of Texas is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry today. With heavy guitar riffs, a killer percussion section and powerhouse vocals the group shows off its talented songwriting and musicianship.

Formed in 2011 in Mcallen,Texas  hard rockers Sons of Texas proved their sound and style of music is vast and broad as the great state of Texas itself with the release of their first album in 2015, Baptized in the Rio Grande.  On September 22, 2017, the band will be releasing their follow up album, Forged by Fortitude on Razor and Tie produced by Josh Wilber.

The band is made up of Mark Morales on vocals, John Olivares on guitar, Mike Villarreal on drums, Jes De Hoyes on guitar and Nick Villarreal on bass.  Forged by Fortitude is a compilation of 11 songs that show the true hard rock spirit and passion of the group in the music and lyrics.

“Buy in to Sell Out” is the first track on the album.  It starts off with static sounds; radio changing channels and a bell ringing, then “Bam” the listener is hit with a full on metal experience.  With drums and bass playing double time mixed with killer guitar riffs this in your face song is sure to let fans know Sons of Texas has something to say.  Morales provides a strong vocal performance that showcases his versatility as a singer.

Some songs that will surely stand out and be fan favorites start off with “Feel The Need”.  With a slap bass solo and Morales’ screaming this rock tune powerhouses what a wild ride this song will take you on.  With steady percussion and guitars that provide a rhythmic sound it allows for fans to truly embrace the tune especially when Morales’ dominant vocal performance is added.

“Down in the Trenches” and “Cast in Stone” are rhythmic rock songs that provide some melodic vocals by Morales.  These catchy tunes will have fans singing along. Olivares and De Hoyes dueling guitar solos in both songs are jaw dropping.  Mike and Nick Villarreal provide steady bass and drum beats that show off their talents as percussionist.  In “Cast in Stone” female singing in harmony “Ooohh” adds color to the tune.

The band’s first single and video “Beneath the Riverbed” proves to be a hard rock tune that has a beautiful yet strong harmonious chorus.  Morales shines vocally during this song.  This song includes a bass solo and strong guitar riffs that add to the depth of the tune.  There was a reason this song was picked to be the first single and the reason is clear; powerhouse vocals and catchy hard rock rhythmic vibe.

“Turnin the Page” starts off as a slower paced tune with an acoustic guitar strumming and electric guitar soloing in the background. Morales starts off with a vulnerable tone to his vocal but as the song turns to a hard rock tune his voice grows strong and he makes his presence known.  This catchy tune provides a guitar solo that will move the listener.  This song will definitely resonate with fans.

The title track off the album, “Forged by Fortitude” is probably one of the heaviest songs on the album.  With Morales providing screams and powerful vocals it’s difficult not to hear the conviction in his voice. Solid hard hitting guitar solos and double-time percussion sections will have fans raising their fist in the air.

The last song on the album is “Slam With The Lights On”.  This song is unique and extremely well executed musically and vocally as it possesses country, hard rock and blues all wrapped up into one truly fun song. It is the perfect way to end the album showing off just how versatile the band is as a whole.

Sons of Texas is a hard rock band that has the ability to shine in whatever they write.  Forged by Fortitude is one of those albums where it is difficult to find just one favorite song because the music and lyrics speak for themselves making for some amazing tunes.  This album is surely one that any hard rock fan should have in their repertoire.
