Side Stage Magazine Speaks With Delain's Charlotte Wessels

Side Stage Magazine: Welcome back to the US. How has the tour and crowds been thus far?

Charlotte Wessels: It has been great! I hugely enjoyed the festival in Worcester where we met up with so many bands we toured with in the past! Also we’re super excited to be performing a full headline set for our US fans for the first time.

How has it been touring with Hammerfall and what can we expect from your live shows on this tour?
It’s been great! Since our music genres don’t completely overlap the package really works well; we both get to perform for a part of audience that is new for us, and we’ve been having a lot of fun doing so.

Congratulations, It has been 10 years this past September since your debut record, Lucidity was released.  You had a birthday bash show on December 10, 2016 in Amsterdam.  How was the experience and show?

It was really exciting and great to have an opportunity to all that we’ve done in the last years, but it was also equally nerve-wrecking as we did our first DVD recordings!

You recorded your Birthday Bash show and will be releasing the entire show on DVD, vinyl, CD and more, how excited are you about being able to give the fans the ability to see you live on the screen? How can fans get their hands on a copy?

It is something that fans have been asking for for a very long time so it is great to be able to give them this. The pre-sales are all running through our campaign on Pledgemusic. Fans can find it here: http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/delain10thanniversary

In October the 10th Anniversary edition of Lucidity has been released.  What can fans expect from the album? Any special tracks or features?

There are a bunch of Bonus Tracks and we’ve also added an instrumental download of the album to the package!

It seems like this past year has been a busy and exciting one for you with the release of your album Moonbathers, Lunar Prelude EP release, touring non-stop, celebrating the 10 year anniversary of your first album and soon to be releasing the DVD.   What are your plans after this tour?

We’re continuing the crazy ride we’re on writing for our new album, touring the festival season and then we’ve got a number of special shows featuring Marco Hietala from Nightwish coming up in Europe in October/November. No rest for the wicked!

It looks like in October 2017 you will do a short run of shows in Europe on a tour called  “Danse Macabre” featuring your friend Nightwish’s Marco Hietla.  What can we expect from this tour that from previous ones?

Marco has been a guest on almost all of our albums and has joined us on stage at many occasions, never before however have we been in a situation where he could join us on tour and perform multiple of those tracks with us. So obviously his part in the show will be larger which is exciting for band and fans alike. It doesn’t stop there however as we will make sure the entire production will be something special, a night to remember!
