Seether and Within Reason at the Fillmore Detroit 10/10/2015

When you think of South Africa, hard rock bands are probably not the first thing that comes to mind. But when you think of hard rock bands who hail from South Africa there is only one that does, Seether. Seether is back at it and the tour made a stop in Detroit Rock City on Saturday with Within Reason in tow. Seether’s bus pulled up to the historic Fillmore Detroit with one goal: Rock the Rock City.

Within Reason is a four piece rock band from Birmingham, Alabama comprised of Chris Dow [vocalist], Jordan Foster [guitarist], David Koonce [bassist] and Griffin Zarbough [drums].   They always put on an exciting, energetic set. Within Reason opened with “Enemy” and gained the crowd’s attention quickly. Dow leaned in connecting with the crowd who was singing along with him. If you haven’t already, you need to check out these guys live! They won’t disappoint.

Set list:

“Enemy”

“Control”

“Gotta Let It Die”

“Your Mistake”

“Ayo Technology”

“Favorite Sin”

“Bring Em’ Out”

“Bloodshot Life” Intro-“Walking Dead”

Seether, Shaun Morgan [vocals, guitar], Dale Stewart [bass, backing vocals], and John Humphrey [drums], then took the stage in front of an eager crowd. Seether was making their second appearance of the year at the Fillmore – both shows in front of a packed house .

The front row was full of the band’s VIP ticket holders, who were very excited about the incredible experience. Seether is touring in support to their sixth album Isolate and Medicate which was released in July 2014. Isolate and Medicate reached the number one spot on Billboard charts for Top Rock, Top Alternative and Top Hard Rock Album.

Morgan’s Poetic lyrics and crisp vocals were strong throughout the fifteen song set. The crowd was singing along with every song, drowning out Morgan’s voice during “Broken”. They performed all of their biggest hits and included a cover of “Lithium”, a Nirvana song that they nail every time. The crowd stood there in disbelief when Seether was done playing. The lights came on and the mass just stood there, hoping the night wasn’t over.  Most of the fans, including me, appeared to be long time Seether fans, and everyone I talked to were very pleased with the Saturday night performance.

Set List:

“My Disaster”

“Rise Above This”

“Gasoline”

“Needles”

“Breakdown”

“Save Today”

“Fine Again”

“Broken”

“Same Damn Life”

“Nobody Praying for Me”

“Country Song”

“Lithium” (Nirvana cover)

“Words as Weapons”

“Fake It”

“Remedy”
