Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts, Live @ Gramercy Theatre NYC 11-25-15

Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts began their pre-Thanksgiving concert with a big bang, blasting the show into full gear with a favourite from Scott’s Stone Temple Pilots days, “Crackerman.” Armed with his signature megaphone, Weiland defiantly stared down the audience as he prowled through the stage smoke with a lithe swagger.

A definite highlight was when Scott ordered audience members to put down their phones and “enjoy the experience.”  When one person refused to comply, continuing to take video of the song, Scott flipped him off without missing a beat, blending the movement seamlessly into his onstage choreography. Weiland is as stoic and intimidating as ever, his enigmatic intensity perpetually casting a hex over his devoted audience. Despite feeling a little under the weather, he plowed boldly forward giving a thousand percent, his energy never faltering.

The Wildabouts provided a fierce background to Weiland’s sensual delivery, charging fearlessly forward into every song. Their raw, wild energy was wickedly engaging. As always, staples like “Big Empty” & “Vasoline” from the STP days were included in the set, as well as “Parachute” & “Way She Moves” from the newest record Blaster.
