It’s been a little over a month since you were first introduced to Heather O’Neill, an Irish born Chicagoan. The, you read about her songs “Transmute” and “Lady Blue.” This talented singer with a soulful voice has just released another bluesy rock single from her EP album, Transmute. The newest song is “Nicotine & Neon.”
“Nicotine & Neon” opens with a faster groovy beat. You’ll instantly catch the groove and get sucked into the track. O’Neill’s vocals on this track are mildly reminiscent of Mazzy Star vocals, in some ways. While the song has an upbeat rhythm, the vocals are mystical and dreamy.
This song has a rough edge in the lyrics. That’s one of the things that makes it a memorable song. That and the fact that O’Neill’s vocals are amazingly good.
If you like rough-cut, bluesy rock tunes, with impressive female vocals, you’ll dig this five-star track. It has a bit of a tinny feel like it wasn’t professionally recorded – but that adds to the intrigue of the song.
