Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Getaway

Finally after the long 5 year wait since their last album, “The Getaway” has made it’s arrival. While recording they hit a few snags, with Flea being on hiatus for 8 months, while healing from a snowboard injury. Changing producers from Rick Rubin who has produced  every album by the band since “Mother’s Milk”, to Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton. Their sound hasn’t changed too much from the “Californication” feel that we adore from Red Hot, but has definite hints of Danger’s styling and  the psychedelic melodic tuning of guitarist Josh Kilnghoffer’s pushing this Cali-grown funk mix of rap, punk and rock to the next level. Keidis saying that most of the inspiration for this album, came from a toxic end to a two year relationship. Never leaving their roots for the love of California, there are plenty of lighthearted songs that can definitely be the summer anthems of 2016, “Sick Love”, and “Go Robot” to name a few. But there is some more heavy hitters, like “The Hunter”, ” Feasting on the Flowers” , and “Dark Necessities” hitting on subjects of suicide, being misunderstood, and harsh self realization. I see this album being blared down the California Highway, with the wind blowing through your hair, the perfect setting enjoy the sweet mellow funk that “The Getaway” brings to your eardrums.
