Paul Maged’s Light Years Away

Paul Maged is a singer/songwriter with a new release available. His musical styling has been compared to Pearl Jam, Billy Joel, and Chris Cornell, just a few of the musician’s personal inspirations. Light Years Away was released early in October, produced by Multi-Platinum Producer Sean Gill of The Passengerz. It is the follow up to Maged’s critically successful sophomore album, “Diamonds & Demons”.

If his name sounds familiar to you, it could be because Maged “wrote and performed stand up and sketch comedy for over a decade straight out of high school. He appeared in background roles on Saturday Night Live as well as lead and supporting roles in independent films.”

He made sure to include some of his comedy past in his album through the video for the album’s title track. That’s what the press release said, anyway. I failed to see the comedy aspect of the video and actually thought it was pretty clever and well-done.

Light Years Away is the first in a trilogy of EP’s that Maged plans to release in succession. This album is available on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon.

The EP consists of seven songs. It starts out with a punk vibe with “PC Police”. There was a Green Day comparison in the press release for this album, and this may be part of why that’s there. It does kind of have a similar pop-punk sound, but the lyrics and vocals couldn’t be compared at all.

The album is filled with different sounds. The title track kind of has an otherworldly sound, much like you’d expect from a song with such a name. Then you have songs like “Moment Of Strength,” which sounds like an 80s pop song full of motivation and empowering lyrics.

This is a great effort from Maged. It has a lot to offer. For fans of pop-punk and mellow rock, Light Years Away is an excellent release that will be worth the listen.
