Tune in to “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” tonight to view a super special OK Go version of late night television as the band performs “The One Moment,” which is from their latest album, Hungry Ghosts (Paracadute/BMG).

Like many of the GRAMMY-winning band’s previous clips – which include “This Too Shall Pass,” shot within an elaborate Rube Goldberg Machine, and “Upside Down & Inside Out,” shot entirely in zero gravity – “The One Moment” is incredibly intricate and elaborate, but it only took one moment to shoot. Directed by OK Go singer Damian Kulash, Jr., “The One Moment” has short periods of real time at the beginning and end, but the bulk of it was captured in a mere 4.2 seconds. During the film, band members create and interact with hundreds of synchronized, high-speed events, choreographed to the cathartic song about the most important moments in life, those moments when everything changes. Coming at this time of great change around the world, the song underscores the opportunity and need for people to step up, step out and make a difference.

“We triggered 325 events with extremely precise digital triggers to create the choreography, which unfolds over a little more than four seconds,” explains Damian Kulash, Jr. “We shot with extremely high-speed cameras, which allows us to stretch those few seconds over the full length of the song. Our fastest frame rate was a little over 6000 frames per second, which effectively slows down time to be 20,000% slower than we normally experience it. At those moments, we’re seeing things move through the air that, in real life, are moving faster than the speed of sound.”

In addition to the official video for “The One Moment,” OK Go partnered with Morton Salt, Inc. to create an interactive version of the clip that salutes five individuals who have spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives to help others. In this version, hot spots pop up that feature stories about the difference makers featured in the clip – leaders whose passion to make a difference in the world began in just one moment. The interactive version of “The One Moment” can be viewed exclusively at MortonSalt.com/WalkHerWalk. Inspired by the unstoppable spirit of the iconic Morton Salt Girl, the “Walk Her Walk” movement seeks to drive, support and inspire positive change.

“The song ‘The One Moment’ is about those moments in life when you are most alive, the moments that truly matter, the moments when everything changes.” says Kulash, Jr. “We shot the video in a single moment to bring this feeling to life. We want to show that a single moment can contain so much wonder, so much beauty, and so much change. We hope it helps inspire people to use their moments wisely.”

Today, members of OK Go will discuss the making of the video in a Facebook Live session on “Entertainment Tonight.” Smithsonian magazine, the flagship publication of the Smithsonian Institution, recently announced that OK Go has won the 2016 American Ingenuity Award in the Visual Arts for the band’s “Upside Down & Inside Out” video, which was directed by Kulash and Trish Sie. A ceremony honoring this year’s winners will be held on December 8, at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Introduced in 2012, the American Ingenuity Awards have been called “the Golden Globes of the Intellect” and “the Academy Awards of Innovation.”
