Noise Ratio's Songs On Fire

The independent music world is full of one-man-bands that you would be shocked to know are only one man (or woman). In the beginning, plenty of people didn’t know that there was one man behind Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor is an icon in the world of one-man-bands, but there are plenty of talented musicians out there making music their way, and on their own. Noise Ratio is one of those such bands.

From West Virginia, Noise Ratio is the inspired efforts of Jeff Valput. He does everything from composition and on when it comes to the music on his albums.

Classified as “adult alternative rock”, loosely, this music is hard to categorize. It has a bit of an experimental sound. The lyrics are of a more adult nature, making it music that is more relatable to adults than teens. The music, from instrumentation to vocals and lyrics, is intriguing. From a self-taught musician, this is an amazing piece of work.

The best way to get a taste of this new album from Noise Ratio, Songs On Fire, would be to check out the two videos on Youtube (links below). The album came out in August and you can purchase it on both Amazon and Bandcamp.

“Freed Love” is the first song on the album. It’s an interesting and clever song. It has a bit of a dark sound, but that makes it that much more interesting. The video is very clever and adds so much to the story the song is telling.

The songs each have a bit of the same sound, but the lyrics tell different stories. This song stands out a great deal because it’s really saying that you need to get up and keep trying. Everyone feels like giving up, and this song touches base on that. Without “Trial And Error” we’d never succeed at anything.

This is an album that won’t be for everyone, but it is a pretty interesting listen. Truly uncategorizable, you’ll just have to listen for yourself.
