Mavara’s Consciousness

Mavara's Consciousness
Pretty sure a cow gets slaughtered on the first track. The first four-minutes of the song is a speaking intro, but it’s definitely an interesting one. Before getting into details, here’s a little bit about Mavara.

“Mavara is Iran’s first premier progressive rock band,” according to their press release. The translation of their name means “beyond everything you think.” This definitely seems fitting to a prog rock band.

The band has been together for six years. The members are Farhood Ghadiri on keyboards and synthesizers (he is also the composer), Ashkan Hamedi on vocals and Guitar, Sina Khodaiefer on bass, Anis Oveisi on keyboards, and Jim Welch on Drums.

Mavara’s music has been compared to bands like Pink Floyd and Porcupine Tree, but a trained ear will hear a good deal of Dream Theater influence in there as well. The songs are long, they are melodic and musical, and they have a lot going on in them. You can enjoy the synth or the sampling, but the music itself is what really stands out. The vocals are epic, as is the music.

This album has ten songs and is nearly an hour long. You won’t get bored listening to it though. If you enjoy progressive rock and metal, Mavara should be next on your new music to listen to “list”.
