Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie wow the crowd at the Louisville Palace with a combination of new songs and old favorites.

As performers and musicians, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie have been collaborators for decades in Fleetwood Mac, one of the biggest bands of their generation. While Fleetwood Mac regrouped and continued to tour and record, Christine McVie took a 15-year break from the band, focusing instead on her own personal journey. Lindsey Buckingham remained an integral part of the band while also working on a solo career. As he described to the crowd, when McVie contacted him about the possibility of rejoining Fleetwood Mac 3 years ago, he was not only thrilled but surprised by the bits of new music she began to send him. This was the beginning of what would become a unique collaboration between these longtime bandmates and friends, resulting in their recently released self-named album of new music as well as the tour to promote it.

Somehow knowing they were in for a special night, the crowd roared their approval from the moment these two musical icons stepped onto the stage and kicked off their show with a brief acoustic set beginning with Buckingham’s solo hit, “Trouble”, newly arranged and stripped down. It definitely struck a chord if the hooting and hollering was any indication. For the next 90 minutes, Lindsey Buckingham with his guitar, and Christine McVie at the keyboards thoroughly and completely entertained the room. They were accompanied by a band comprised of musicians they had worked with during Fleetwood Mac as well as newcomers, to great effect.

McVie seemed more than comfortable behind her keyboard, leaving most of the chatter to Buckingham, but when she stepped aside to play maracas or the accordion the crowd went wild. More than a few fans yelled out “We love you, Christine” throughout the night. Buckingham, in turn, set the room on fire with brilliant guitar solos, in case anyone had forgotten that he was not only a talented singer-songwriter but also one of the most gifted guitar players of his time.

Their set was a perfect almost 50/50 balance of songs from their new collaboration and well-loved songs from their heyday with Fleetwood Mac, including such classics as “Hold Me”, “Little Lies”, “You Make Loving Fun” and “Go Your Own Way”, but what had to be the highlight of the night was when this duo and their band launched into “Tusk”, an unlikely choice in this format but brilliantly done. Buckingham/McVie have it all going for them: a list of classic songs a mile long to choose from, and new material that could easily find its way to any Fleetwood Mac album. Their chemistry is undeniable, and both sound as good today as they did 40 years ago. It is a show not to be missed, and an album worth investing in.
