Any Lacuna Coil fans out there?  Yes…there you are!  If you weren’t somewhat of a fan, you wouldn’t be reading this review.  Think back to the first time you heard Lacuna Coil.  If your experience was anything comparable to mine, you were probably in sheer awe as you listened to “Swamped” or “Heaven’s a Lie” from 2002’s Comalies.  I’ll never forget the friends that turned me onto the band; an enthusiastic body piercer/metal vocalist named Jameson and his girlfriend with the pierced corset along her spine…but that’s another story.
Lacuna Coil is the essence of Italian metal.  Over the years the group has released some really great albums, and also a few that missed the mark.  One thing is for certain and that’s with each album produced, the group’s dedication to what they do is unmistakable.  Let’s take a stage dive into their eighth studio recording Delirium, released on May 27th.
I don’t even know where to begin with Delirium, except to say that I’m in love with it.  The title track is fierce, yet soothing to the point where I could fall asleep to it like a lullaby. It’s the type of record that you need to play start to finish (at least twice) before you really start to feel and appreciate it.  One thing that really stands out in Delirium is how Ferro’s vocals seemed a bit more “screamy” than ever before, specifically in opening track “The House of Shame”. The group takes it a step further by adding an electronic element, as heard in “Blood, Tears, Dust” where Scabbia’s hauntingly sweet voice only adds to the powerful mix.  She shifts an octave higher on several songs and completely delivers on every note.  The two vocalists feed off of each other in such a delicious way that listeners can’t help being mesmerized throughout the entire album, even the cover of Madonna’s “Live to Tell”.  This is one is a masterpiece.
