KXM's Scatterbrain

Supergroup KXM, is back with their sophomore album Scatterbrain set for release via Rat Pak Records on March 17, 2017. The album which was recorded over a ten-day period came about as a musical jam session which involved having all three members playing in the same room.  The band being made up of George Lynch (Lynch Mob/Dokken) on guitars, dUg Pinnick (King’s X) on vocals and bass and last but not least, Ray Luzier (Korn) on Drums.

Scatterbrain was produced by Chris “The Wizard” Collier (Flotsam and Jetsam/Prong/Last in Line), at Steakhouse Studio in California.  Collier also produced the 2014 highly successful debut album, KXM which debuted on the Billboard 200 at #31.  The new album seems to play off a heavier KXM, a familiar Rock sound but brings to it a darker sounding musical muse drawing from Punk, Ska, Metal and Prog genres.

The first song off the album, also the title track “Scatterbrain” comes out guns blazing with a Nu-Metal type of feel.  A catchy chorus and memorable harmonies will catch listner’s attention.  In the middle of the song a face melting guitar solo occurs with a solid bass and drum presentation adding to its depth. “Scatterbrain” proves right off the bat that KXM are seasoned musicians who are telling the world they are back and stronger than ever.

“Breakout”, “Obsession”, “ Panic Attack” and “Together” are songs on the album that  have an amazingly sold Hard Rock foundation.  Although each song is not completely the same in its style, the one thing listeners will be able to walk away from is that the performance was truly stellar.  Rock and Metal fans will be drawn to the killer vocalization coming from Pinnick the way in which only he can truly sing with passion and strength mixed in with the harmonies that make each song distinctive.  Luzier on drums will take you for a thrilling percussion ride with some double pedal action one minute to some Rock steady traditional beats the next.   Adding on and crafting his own style of keeping the Hard Rock rhythm is Pinnick holding his own and allowing for listeners to feel the bass undertone at times or take hold of the song and lead the way.   Lynch proves when it comes to playing guitar he is not to be outdone.  He brings his style of shredding to these songs that will have fans jaws open in awe at the true talent and creativity of each note he bends.

For the Blues Rock lovers, “Not a Single Word”, “Noise In the Sky” and “It’s Never Enough” will be favorites.  What these songs bring to the album is a sense of the Blues, Funk and Groove.  These songs show off Pinnick’s vocals performances as sultry and moving  mixed with an upbeat sexy style that will draw the listener in.  Luzier and Pinnick on percussion provide a rock solid bass and drum percussion section to each song bringing the groove and beat to every song. Lynch brings a true innovative style of playing some stunning traditional and un-conventional Blues jams.  Fans will love the addition of the Funk grove vibe on percussion mixed in with Lynch’s Blues style guitar playing.

The last song on the album may just be the most stunning song of all 13 tracks, “Angel.”  The song has a strong Country Rock feel to it and is a love song at its core. With a stunning solo by Lynch added with a touching vocal performance that is genuine and venerable by Pinnick one can’t deny that KXM has finished its album in the perfect way, covering all genres and styles of Rock.

What makes KXM so special isn’t the fact that the band alone is made up of three of today’s most talented musicians it’s because these artist truly know how to take the talent they have and create some of the most unique and diverse sounding music.  Scatterbrain truly shows off a side of KXM that’s a little heavier lyrically and musically but it also will provide a chance for listeners and fans to embrace a new era of the band allowing them the ability to hear one of today’s great Hard Rock/Metal bands.
