Korn has undeniably resurrected their brand of alt-metal perfection with their twelfth disc, titled The Serenity Of Suffering.  From start to finish, the album delivers a pummeling blend of heavy grooves, tense breakdowns, and beautifully catchy choruses that are truly reminiscent of the band’s earlier years.

The album’s starting track “Insane” immediately grabbed my attention with Jon’s vocal line, which I was easily comparing to the flow of something that Lajon Witherspoon (Sevendust) would do.

Lead single, “Rotting In Vain” definitely brings out a level of nostalgia that inspired my excitement for this album.  The perfect coalescence of nu-metal heaviness, with a melancholy yet catchy chorus takes me straight back to 2003’s “Take A Look In The Mirror”, which I’ve always credited as one of the band’s strongest albums.  Jonathan’s “scat-verse” style is also revisited in this song, which will surely catch the attention of the most old-school of Korn fans.  The emotionally charged chorus on “Take Me” makes it one of my favorite tracks on this record, along with “Everything Falls Apart”.

One of the strongest attributes of this record has to be the nostalgia factor.  If you’re a fan of the band’s first decade of material, then you’re in for a treat, as this album pumps that “signature Korn sound” that many fans have craved for years.  This excellent addition to the band’s discography is now available everywhere.  Even if you haven’t been as intrigued by their last decade of “experimental” records, I’d like to think that this album will make you a believer again.

“The Serenity Of Suffering” is available on iTunes, Spotify, and many other major retailers.  Make sure you also check out Korn’s website for tour dates, merchandise, and more!
