John 5 has made a name for himself as one of the world’s top guitarist, building up quite the resume through many years working with Rob Zombie and his prolific solo career.

Today, the Telecaster master has exclusively released a new video for one of those choice solo cuts, “Behind the Nut Love,” via Fender.com.

Originally recorded for 2005 album Songs for Sanity, this fresh take on the song was recorded with his band, the Creatures (Ian Ross and Rodger Carter), and is available anywhere digital music is sold.

Directed by Lord Zane, the video shows John 5 sitting in a high-backed chair with a rare 1950 Fender Broadcaster, amazingly playing behind the nut to emulate the sound of a lap-steel guitar.

“I always wanted to be a lap steel player because I loved Hee-Haw and that stuff,” he told Fender.com. “I loved the sound of it. This is my tribute to that instrument.

“I tuned the guitar to an E major chord because with a pedal steel, when you’re working the pedals, it’s to an open chord. And I just started messing around. This was the result.”

As for the guitar, he acquired it from the famed Norman’s Rare Guitars in Tarzana, Calif., yet another addition to John 5’s massive collection of Teles.

“Actually they say its one of the cleanest ones ever seen. It’s been documented in many Fender-focused books,” he said. “That was one of Norm’s prize possessions, and I finally got it off him. It’s an amazing guitar.”
