John 5 & The Creatures At The Broadberry 2-8-18

Written By: Brandon Delano

John 5 & The Creatures made a stop at Richmond’s The Broadberry on Thursday night as part of their ‘It’s Alive’ Tour 2018. The tour which kicked off in Orlando, FL on February 1st will make its way across the country before wrapping up in Tacoma, WA on March 21st.

John 5 recently released his 10th solo album, a double live album entitled It’s Alive which was recorded at Sellersville Theater during 2017’s tour. The album captures the feel and energy of a live show, but nothing compares to seeing John 5 perform in person. John 5 has played with the likes of David Lee Roth, Rob Halford, Marilyn Manson, and of course Rob Zombie for the past 13 years.

With a stage that resembled the front yard of most suburban homes during Halloween John 5 & The Creatures took to the stage playing an 18 song set. As the intro. “Johnny Guitar” wrapped up John 5 emerged from behind the curtain and kicked off the set with “Flight of The Vulcan Kelly”. For 90 minutes John 5 wowed the crowd with songs like “This is My Rifle,” “Season of the Witch,” and “Enter Sandman,” before wrapping the night up with Michael Jackson’s “Beat It”. Another notable highlight of the set was the closing medley that included songs like, “Hot For Teacher,” “Cat Scratch Fever,” “Man in the Box,” and “Roxanne”. Video screens displaying clips from classic horror films also added a visual aspect to the spooky stage set, that resembled a smaller version of what fans have come to expect of a Rob Zombie show.

Not many are capable of captivating and holding an audience for over 90 minutes, but John 5 pulls it off with ease and leaves the crowd wanting more night after night. If this shows comes to a city near you I highly recommend check it out!
