Audiotopsy is a new supergroup of sorts, Greg Tribbett from HellYeah/Mudvayne, partnered up in 2014 with former Skrape singer Billy Keeton, and Mudvayne’s Matthew McDonough on drums, and bassist Perry Stern. Audiotopsy released their debut album Natural Causes on Napalm Records on October 2nd 2015.

I was able to sit down at the Machine Shop with Greg Tribbett for a quick chat.

Side Stage: Can you give me a very brief history about how long you’ve been together?

Greg Tribbett:  We have been together since August 2014, about a year and a half now.

What was the inspiration for writing the new album?

Playing with Matt again.   Then Billy and Perry came on board they of course brought the other talent. Especially working with a new singer, a whole new band. Basically starting over again.  That was the inspiration to write a cool progressive hard rock record.

It took how long to write the record?

Me and Matt wrote the seven songs in two days at his house.  The rest of the songs we wrote last January pretty quick. Studio time was about a month, three to four weeks.

Who Produced the record?

The Band produced it. We did it all ourselves.  We had an engineer named Tim Laud in Orlando at The Porch Studios.

Which label are you with?

Napalm Records.

Which song on your album is your personal favorite?

probably “Frozen Scars.”

So Far, In This band what has been your biggest challenge?

Well, this is our first tour so our first challenge was to see if we could all live together.  Honesty we had never played live in front of an audience before this tour. So far, its working out. The tour is almost over, but yeah we will be fine

Do you ever play any cover songs of any kind?

No, but if we had to headline we are going to have to.  We could play the whole record but headliners sometimes have to play 75 minutes.

What would you cover?

I have no idea, maybe some Black Sabbath or something.

So what is coming up in the future for you guys?   Any festivals?

We are doing some radio shows in May. Carolina Rebellion I think, The Northern Invasion in Wisconsin and more touring.  I think we will start back out in February until this time next year.

If you could put together your perfect tour, what bands would be with you?

A perfect tour? Ahhhhh Tool, Metallica, and the Deftones. How about that four?

Have you played with them all before?

I’ve played with everyone of those bands before, but not on a tour.

If you could add one person to your band, living or dead who would it be?

Randy Rhoads, definately him.

What question have you never been asked but you’ve always wanted to answer?

Oh my god, I don’t even know how to answer that? I don’t even know.

I know you’ve been asked the same questions thousands of times.  So is there anything you would like them to know, or ask about?

Ummm, I really can’t think of anything. I’ve been asked so much, pretty much everything.

Do you have a favorite venue that you were really excited about, or one you are trying to hit?

This one..  Right here. The Machine Shop. It’s always sold out when we come here. It’s also a great time here. Chicago House of Blues is a great one.  Corpus Christie, TX, or San Antonio,  TX too.

Do you have a message or anything you would like to pass on to your fans?

Yes, give Audiotopsy a chance. We are a brand new band. Everyone knows our history. Take a listen to the record, and give it a chance.  Either you will like it or not, it’s either for you or its not.  Keep up with Audiotopsy’s Facebook.

Do you have a store to  buy items?  Of course we have Itunes for the music.

Yes, we have a store its on Benchmark.   www.shopbenchmark.com/audiotopsy

You can buy our merch, and everything on there.

Thank You for taking the time to talk to us.
