Green Knuckle Material's Renaissance Green Knuckle Material's Renaissance

A band with a gimmick, according to their press release Green Knuckle Material  (GKM) aren’t just meer earth dwellers.

“Backstory: In the year 4000 George Kilroy Marten, the universe’s last hope, faced off against his arch-enemy The Huntress, Master of Dark Folk witchery who sought to devour the cosmos. During their battle she sent him back in time, splitting his essence into 5 separate entities and thrusting them to the year 2016. Those 5 entities went on to become GKM.”

GKM’s members are Scatterbrain PG rapping, Young Dan on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, D-String on bass and vocals, Mudd Dog on electric guitar, and The Hawaiian on drums. They also enlisted some backup players on female backing vocals, congas, keys, and sax.

This uniquely named, membered and storied musical group have cultivated a unique sound as well. Listed as “rap-rock” on Bandcamp, they aren’t your average Kid Rock sounding band. They’ve combined a funky, bluesy, alternative, indie rock sound with rap. The best part? It sounds awesome. From song one, you’ll be pleasantly surprised and probably a little amazed.

Renaissance is the name of GKM’s new 5-track EP. It starts with “Lullaby.” This is a mellow love song that sounds a bit like a piece by any crooning singer/songwriter until the rapping starts. Everything about this song sounds cool.

“Hole” is heavy with the keys, and that’s great. It starts out with some interesting guitar riffs that will have you thinking of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but it gets so much cooler than that.

If you’re looking for something new and creative that has an interesting sound, this is it. Five stars to these guys for making something that defies categorization and still sounds good.
