Grand Rapid's Slumlord Radio

Slumlord Radio just released a new single and a video for this new song, “Holy Smokes.” The band has been stomping around Grand Rapids since 2010, with an interesting backstory to create intrigue.

According to their bio, “The members all met in a building owned by the infamous Stevie “Slumlord” and in his honor, decided to name the band after him. Falling behind in gambling debts big time to their bookie Chris “Big Rig” Riggie (now manager) they decided to form a band to make some big bucks. Comprised of former Scandinavian models and over-the-road truck drivers, Slumlord Radio spent many hours honing the rowdy, raw action rock sound they were chasing.”

They have a dirty rock, punk rock sound that makes them appealing to the droves of fans that hunt them down when they play anywhere. Their new song is just as great as any song from their last album, Too Pretty For Tijuana

“Holy Smokes” is a raw and gritty song, laden with guitar riffs and rough vocals. Tommy’s vocals are one of the things that makes this band so great, but the other members are just as crucial to pulling the sound together. What’s even better than listening to this song is watching the video for it.

Once again, the boys take the time to turn their video into a story, and this is a pretty clever one. Once again, Joseph Henry (a local westside GR celebrity) makes an appearance as a bit of a narrator. But those aren’t even the best parts of the video!

Lovely ladies are hired by the guys to get the money they need, and chaos ensues. Chaos with bananas as guns and some extremely clever effects. You really just have to watch it.

This is an A+ song from an A+ band. They’ll probably keep topping themselves as they release new tracks. If you like rock and/or punk, you’ll love Slumlord Radio and this new track.
