Grand Rapids' Duo Patty Pershayla & Stovepipe

In October, local musicians Patty Pershayla and Stovepipe Stover got together and made a plan to have a haunted jamboree-style weekend tour. They played outdoors and they played in haunted places. They did scary songs that they’d both written. They played solo and they played as a duo.

While Pershayla normally plays a more metal sound, she got in touch with her folk-side to create some amazing songs for this event. Of course, Stovepipe made some excellent music as well. He has a knack for writing songs that tell stories, and these songs tell some spooky tales.

Luckily, for those that missed the live events, the duo recorded their set and released it as Live From A Haunted House, making it available on Bandcamp. There are a full 16 tracks just waiting for you to howl at the moon with them. The bonus? You get to name your price!

A couple of the stand out tracks include:

“Oracle Bones”- This is one of Pershayla’s songs and it really gives you a taste of her beautiful vocals. The guitar work is peppy and stands out. In the recording, Pershayla announces that this is an older song of hers. The duo didn’t just write all new music for this mini-tour. As the title suggests, this song kind of has a fortune-telling feel to it.

“Howling At The Moon”- Stovepipe shows his quirkiness in this song about a lonely werewolf. This is both a scary and funny song. Seeing it performed live is pretty cool, but you really get that feel in this live recording as well. It definitely needs a few howls mixed in with the lyrics.

If you like folk music and enjoy all things Halloween, you will really dig this album. It sounds great. It’s kind of fun to hear the people cheering in the background and the introductions to each song, as well as the conversation with the crowd.
