Ghost made a stop in Charlotte, NC on Saturday night playing a sold out at The Fillmore. Two thousand fans lined up early to catch one of the final dates on the current North American Popestar Tour which has been selling out venues night after night. There are only a handful of dates left on the current tour before the band takes a much deserved break prior to their upcoming European tour. Ghost’s popularity has exploded since the release of Meliora, which won a 2015 Grammy for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album, as well as a 2016 Grammy for Best Metal Performance for the single “Cirice”.
Ghost has toured heavily since the release of Meliora, starting with their Black to the Future tour in the fall of 2015 which was later extended into a spring tour that led into festival season. The band played the World’s Loudest Month festivals, as well festivals throughout the summer and fall before launching their current Popestar tour. With each show and festival appearance the bands fan base continues to grow.
Following the success of Meliora, Ghost released a five song EP titled Popestar in September 2016. The EP features the single “Square Hammer” which has been getting plenty of radio play and also can be purchased as a special limited edition 7″ square vinyl at their shows. It also was the opening song of their sixteen song setlist which stretched just over an hour and a half. Fans were treated to other favorites such as “From the Pinnacle to the Pit”, “Cirice”, “He Is”, “Absolution”, and closed out with the classic “Monstrance Clock”. With Saturday’s performance, and selling out show after show, one has to wonder what is next for Ghost. In a recent interview one of The Nameless Ghouls says the next album will be a continuation of Meliora, but will be a darker album. Fans will probably have to wait until fall of 2017 to find out, lets hope we don’t have to wait that long to see Ghost return to the U.S. for another run of tour dates.
