Garbage’s Strange Little Birds

Garbage's Strange Little Birds

It feels like the 1990’s again with Garbage (Shirley Manson- vocals, Steve Marker-guitar, Duke Erikson-bass and Keyboards and Butch Vig-drums) recently releasing their sixth studio album.  Strange Little Birds, which launched June 10th on the band’s own label STUNVOLUME.  It was a long four year wait since the last album, Not Your Kind Of People, but it was well worth it!

The record is coated in dark lyrics of jealousy, loneliness, and bad relationships.  Since Shirley is the queen of the brokenhearted; did you expect anything else from Garbage? Of course not!

On this record Manson is allowed to show off her impressive vocal skills without any distortion.

“Empty,” the first single, is classic Garbage, very dark, desperate and broken.  It tugged at my bitter heart strings and made me want to listen to it again and again.

Another couple of gems on this new album is the The Cure inspired “Blackout”, and “Night Drive Loneliness”, which is another dark cry inspired by a piece of fan mail following a show in Russia.  Strange Little Birds features a total of 11 tracks and early online store listings have offered up “FWY” (“Fucking With You”initialized) as a bonus track on the vinyl.

This album is like a breath of fresh air for those die hard Garbage fans.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see Strange Little Birds simply soar through the charts.
