Exhale Tour invaded Detroit’s Saint Andrews Hall!

Written By: Karie Okerstrom

The Exhale Tour invaded Detroit’s Saint Andrews Hall last night.  Since Detroit is the gateway to Canada, the huge crowd was likely there to support Canadian mainstays Thousand Foot Krutch.  But after an electrifying opening set from Minneapolis rockers 3 Pill Morning and a killer performance by Las Vegas’ own Adelitas Way, the crowd was on fire.  Both opening bands had the patrons chanting, bouncing, raising fists and banging heads throughout their performances.  So much so that members of Thousand Foot Krutch were spotted watching both bands from various spots around the stage.  Detroit always brings out the best in both the fans and the artists and this night was no exception.

3 Pill Morning, who is releasing their sophomore album Never Look Back on July 29th, quickly got the crowd motivated with “Crumbs”.  The members of the band, Jeff Stebbins (vocals), Jon Stephenson (guitar) and Ryan Lee (bass) interacted with the crowd throughout the first song while drummer Tom DuPree III hammered his drums behind them.  Stebbins belted out “Bottom of the Barrel”, “Nothing’s Real” and “I Want That For You” before 3 Pill Morning absolutely moved the crowd with their current single, “Electric Chair”.  They closed their set with their biggest hit to date, “Skin”.  Saint Andrews hall was the loudest I’ve heard it for an opening band and people in the crowd were talking about how good 3 Pill Morning was.

As the buzz from the opening band wore down, Adelitas Way entered the stage and blew it right back up with “Sick” and then “Criticize” – their first two #1 singles.  It was clear from that point forward that the crowd was ready to pick up right where they left off with 3 Pill Morning.  Rick DeJesus was on point with his vocals from start to finish.  Tre Stafford’s drums echoed through the walls of the historic venue.  Andrew Cushing grooved on the bass while Robert Zakaryan’s guitar notes were sharp.  “Bad Reputation”, the band’s first single off of their new effort Getaway, put the crowd into a frenzy.  Adelitas Way followed with “Hurt”, “Alive” and “The Good Die Young” before setting up for their final song by playing “The Collapse” from their 2011 record Home School Valedictorian.  The band ended their night with their debut single, “Invincible”, which left the huge audience wanting more.

Thousand Foot Krutch immediately excited the crowd with their current single off of Exhale entitled “Runnin With Giants”.  Saint Andrews Hall was loud and the wooden floor was creaking under the massive crowd.  The 17 song setlist was filled with hits from the entire TFK catalog.  Trevor McNevan recognized that the crowd was pumped up and crushed “Light Up The Sky” and “Untraveled Road” before going into 2009’s  “Scream” followed by the 2005 hit “Move”.  “Courtsey Call”, another fan favorite, set up “The River” – the second of the four new songs on the night.  Andrew Welch’s guitars and Joel Bruyere’s bass were spot-on all night long.  Fill-in drummer, Justin Zuccato, had big shoes to fill while Steve Augustine is home with his brand new baby girl.  Zuccato was right at home behind the kit song after song.  TFK played “Be Somebody”, “Like A Machine”, “Falls Apart” and “Born This Way” while the Detroit crowd screamed and danced the entire time.  This led us into the mega-hit “Fire It Up” and the place went wild.  McNevan slowed the tempo just a little for “War of Change” before diving directly into “Let the Sparks Fly”.  The band closed the set with “A Different Kind of Dynamite” off of Exhale.  Saint Andrews Halls was loud and unruly as they demanded more from the Canadians.  TFK came back out to “Give It To Me” before ending the show with the last of four songs off of Exhale – “Push”.  The crowd cheered loudly and hung around for a long time, hoping that Thousand Foot Krutch would come back out.
