Deftones most recent release, “Gore”, is a masterpiece in itself.  Once again, I am just in awe at the musical genius coming from Chino Moreno and the guys.  The myriad of sounds that the Deftones strategically place in each track is stunning to listen too.  Moreno’s prodigious vocal range is something that only a select few front men can possibly compete with.  He can reshape a song in an atmospheric direction or he can just let it all go and belt out his voice in a more sinister manner.

From top to bottom Gore has it all.  Starting off with the opener, “Prayers/Triangles”, guitarist Stephen Carpenter’s beginning psychedelic rift shifts into a tripped out chorus as you get lost in Moreno’s serenade.  “Acidic Hologram” is an incredible track as Carpenter’s heavy rifts and Moreno’s growls jives into more of a eclectic overall performance.  “Doomed User” is what you expect from the Deftones with the heavy metal riff, killer bass line and a chorus and hook that Moreno splendidly blends all together.  “Hearts/Wires” is an A+ track, with its layered guitar riffs, Moreno’s chilling vocals and a melodic sound that you can sit back and just get lost in.  The title track “Gore” hits you with a hard core guitar rifts and incorporates the wails that Moreno is synonymous with and finishes with a flurry deep bass jams and groans and then mesmerizes into a fade.  Those are just a few and there is not one filler track on this album.

Deftones delivered with their eighth studio album in Gore and this album could arguably be considered their best album to date.  With most music today being digitalized and marketed to perfection with bubble gum sounds and lyrics, Gore is a jewel of musical excellence.
