David Cook's Chromance

David Cook, American Idol winner from the 2008 season, just released his newest E.P., Chromance. His newest album reflects a new direction in his music. You can read about his inspirations here  http://www.sidestagemagazine.com/interview-american-idol-winner-david-cook/ This new album has a new edge to his music, combining lots of different influences, meshing together rock and cinematic pop.

I liked his new album a lot. I enjoyed the new sound he experimented with, but it didn’t take away from his style he’s established over the years. The cinematic style he incorporated into this album, draws the listener into the music. He balances that almost meditative sound with a harder rock feel with more gritty vocals and hard guitar and drums.

“Gimme Heartbreak” was a track released early to fans who backed the PledgeMusic to produce the album. It’s my favorite track of the whole album. The stop-and-go of the beat gives it a great rhythm to dance to. The chorus has a bluesy feel with the line “gimme the heartbreak, bring on the hurt.”

“Another Day in Paradise” is a cover of Phil Collins’ classic. David does a great job covering it and infuses his style with Phil Collins’ classic sound to give it a more modern sound, but pays homage to the rock legend.

“Ghost Magnetic” was another early release for pledgers, and another favorite in the album. Its slower tempo gives to David’s sultry voice in the verses, but the chorus opens up to lyrics for belting.

His album is available to buy or stream through Spotify, Pledge, iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and Tidal.
