As a Michigan native, I am always happy to discover great new Michigan bands. Although Citizen Zero isn’t a new band, as they released their first independent EP in 2012, they are new to me, and I am really digging their newest tunes, on their upcoming album State of Mind.

Citizen Zero is a band hailing from Detroit rock city, and consists of Josh LeMay – Vocals/Guitar, Sammy Boller – Lead Guitar, John Dudley – Drums, and Sam Collins – Bass.

They have a great rock sound, that is pretty mellow, but speaks loudly with lyrics that will stick in your mind. Their songs are well written, from lyrics to guitar chords.

What A Feeling, the first song on the album, has a great beat and almost a pop feel to it. It’s a very positive start to the album. With the song Go (Let Me Save You) I could easily compare this band to past great Michigan bands, like Verve Pipe and Papa Vegas. They definitely have staying power, and the music industry is in a much better place these days than when Papa Vegas was working on making it big.

Anyone that likes rock music, with a beat, will really enjoy the music of Citizen Zero. If you listen to each song on this album you’ll find that the band has immense talent. Each song has a different feel, yet you can tell they’ve all come from the same band.

The title track, State Of Mind, is by far my favorite. It kind of has a Fu Manchu, stoner rock feel to it. I could also easily compare it to the sounds of Buckcherry. It’s a great song, and LeMay’s vocals show how talented a singer he really is.

I highly recommend you pick this album up mid-August.  It’s one of my favorite local Michigan releases so far this year! And it beats some of the national stuff I’ve heard lately as well.
