Bobaflex's Eloquent Demons

For almost 20 years Bobaflex has been a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.  With their own unique style of hard rock music mixed with outstanding harmonies and guitar riffs that complement their sound, it’s hard to find a band that compares to them.  Bobaflex will soon be releasing their eighth studio album and a brand new compilation of songs that will show off just what talented singers, songwriters and musicians the band has.

Formed in Mason, West Virginia in 1998, Bobaflex has found success in being road dogs playing music live in over 48 states over the years.  In the last seven years they have played 100 shows each year and in 2016 a record-setting 154.  The band has gained a mass following from touring and finds a chance to hit the stage whenever and wherever they can.

Bobaflex also has been pumping out records and EP’s that have a distinctive style and sound creating their official brand of music. The band created their own label BFX Records in 2010 to gain control of their musical direction.   Known for their gritty hard rock songs that include killer guitar riffs and dominant percussion sections, Bobaflex is a band that diverse with its sound.

What set the band apart from others is their astonishing harmonies.  Almost every member is a talented singer adding to the mixture of sounds that add to the fullness of their music.  Although brothers, Marty and Shaun McCoy switch off on lead or share the duties the other members add their voice to the music at times as well !

The band is made up of Marty McCoy on vocals/guitar,  Shaun McCoy on vocals/guitar, Tommy Johnson on drums, Dave Tipple on guitar/vocals and Jymmy Tolland on bass/vocals.  On August, 25 2017 the band will be releasing its eight album, Eloquent Demons.  The album stays true to the Bobaflex sound but has fresh crisp sounds, powerhouse songs and strong lyrics.

The first track on the album is “I Am A Nightmare” which is a fast paced, strong hitting rock song which if you listen carefully has a little bit of a punk vibe to it.  In true Bobaflex fashion the harmonies are strong and add to the richness of the song.  Tolland and Johnson provide a steady and powerful percussion section.  The McCoy brothers and Tipple prove to be talented guitar players moving from rhythmic to killer guitar solos in this tune.

Some fan favorite songs are sure to be “Long Time Coming”, which was the second single off the album. This catchy tune with its chorus that will have listeners singing along showcases Marty on lead vocals.  Marty’s powerful yet melodic sounding voice is versatile and harmonious bringing something special to the song.  The harmonies on this song are outstanding and play an important role in the overall sound of the tune. Guitar and percussion sections are rhythmic and forceful.

Another song that will have fans intrigued is “Lights Out”.   With its fast paced, catchy chorus this fun-filled tune will be a fan favorite sing along tune.  This song is unique and full of entertaining lyrics.

“Real Sadness” will truly be a song that fans will remember.  It’s a hard rock song at its core but slows down to a sexy guitar part in the middle of the song.  As the music plays, Marty comes in with melodic vocals and the rest of the band with harmony. This song shows off some truly remarkable songwriting and execution.  As the slower section speeds back up to a faster pace the song continues and makes this piece so amazing it showcases the talent of each member of the band and the uniqueness of sound that only Bobaflex can possess.

For those who like a slower song “Off With Your Head”, a ballad with a love-hate theme will be the perfect tune.  Marty’s vocals come across with a melodic and vulnerable style with a hint of bitterness. The slower acoustic guitar playing along, accompanied by a steady percussion section provides the perfect combination for this song mixed with Marty’s vocals.

What seems to be something Bobaflex excels at is being able to pick and execute great cover songs.  In 2011 off the Hell n My Heart album, the band covered Simon-Garfunkel’s “Sound of Silence” with great accolades.  This time around the band has covered Pink Floyd’s “Hey You”, which was the band’s first single off the album.   This song was a great choice for the band and truly showcases once again the quality of vocal capability of the band.  With outstanding harmonization that shines and musicianship of all the members, listeners will get a feel of the traditional Pink Floyd style mixed with an updated and passionate cover by Bobaflex.

Last song on the album is “Reckless”, with an opening line like “Why do you keep killing yourself?”  fans will know they are in for a fun and killer song.  With Shaun on vocals his unique style is one that allows him to go from powerful to sarcastic sounding vocals. Like his brother he has a versatility that is something that adds to the band’s sound.  The song itself processes a Guns N’ Roses type vibe with a hard rock sound and a killer bass intro by Tolland.  It’s a great song to wrap up the album.

Bobaflex has created a unique sound and style all their own creating a brand that has led them to longevity in the industry. “Eloquent Demons” is an album that does not disappoint.  In fact, it just maybe the best work that the band has done thus far. For any Bobaflex or a fan of creative music this album is a must have.
