BARONESS STATEMENT ON GRAMMY NOMINATIONBest Metal Performance for “Shock Me” |

“What a surreal morning it has been. I was wakened at 5 a.m. by a massive influx of messages and emails, after 2 days without sleep, on tour in New Zealand and Australia to find out ‘Shock Me’ has been nominated for a GRAMMY. I’m astounded that this happened, and psyched to see that our friends in Gojira are present on the list as well. It’s been an overwhelming year, touring this record, and I’m extremely proud of my friends/bandmates and the whole Baroness family for the dedication and sacrifice that it took to write, record, and release Purple. Thank you, whoever you are that considered us for the nomination.” – John Baizley
Baroness released Purple, the band’s fourth album and the collection that now boasts the Grammy-nominated song “Shock Me,” in December of 2015 via their own label, Abraxan Hymns. Produced by Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev), the 10-song release has been universally praised with Pitchfork saying it features “some of the biggest, strongest songs Baroness has ever written,” Entertainment Weekly describing Purple as “their finest release yet” and Mojo declaring “Baroness have delivered their masterpiece: an album grounding their cosmic heaviosity with earthbound, compelling drama.”
The band is in the midst of an Australian tour, playing tonight at The Triffid in Brisbane. John Baizley was also recently confirmed as the curator of Roadburn Festival 2017.
