The Glam Skanks!
On their 3rd consecutive tour with Adam Ant, The Glam Skanks opened the show. These 20 something young ladies have a swagger that would have you believing they’d been performing onstage for decades. This confidence must come from the catchy songs they play (and wrote). I’d never heard of the band the first time I saw them but by the end of that show, I had to buy a CD. It’s one that’s never far from my player. The songs have a ’70’s feel with a touch of ’60’s songwriting! Trust me, pop this in and you won’t be able to keep yourself from singing along. Fun, sassy songs matched with perfect production, these girls will grab you by the hand and have you dancing with them halfway through the first song. This has become one of my favorite cds this year.
Adam Ant!
I was fortunate enough to see Adam Ant on his recent ‘Kings of the Wild Frontier’ tour, and was highly impressed so when I heard he was coming back around with his new tour called ‘Anthems’ I was excited to make the drive down to Richmond Virginia to see him play not only the A-side singles but their B-side counterparts!
As always, Adam Ant entered the stage to the Carmen Overture and from there, he barreled through hits and some slightly more obscure songs providing a wonderful mix of Antmusic with the enthusiasm of a 21-year-old. Complete with his every present style and flash, he was dressed in a new cool costume this time (a leather jacket with classic styled wrapped buttons and a flat brimmed round hat).
Adam took advantage of every inch of this stage, gliding from one side, spinning, dancing, hopping and dancing to the other. His style of movement is so interesting. One thing I always found cool about Adam Ant is that, although his dancing and movement is genuine and deliberate, it’s almost as if he has an additional amount of energy that he is purposely restraining! It’s like he is dancing at a ‘10’ but he could be dancing at a ‘15’!
The house was packed and every song got even more cheers than the last. The crowd absolutely loved him and they, like me, were honored that Adam Ant would still step out and entertain us, as only he can, after all of these years. Hearing him sing his songs easily as well as he ever has in the past 30 some years and watching him move with ease of someone ¼ his age, it’s difficult to believe that Adam Ant is 62 years old.
I had the opportunity to be face to face with Adam for a brief moment this night after the show and he is youthful (he honestly looks like he’s 40 years old), energetic (and this, AFTER the show) and incredibly friendly!
Adam is an extraordinary entertainer. Watching him sing a song is akin to seeing him perform in a Broadway play. He uses every energy at his disposal to deliver the song…. His vocals, his acting, his dancing, his excitement, his charisma. At the end of an Adam Ant song, you feel like you’ve walked the journey, every step of the way, with him.
