Richmond’s The National closed out the 2015 concert season and welcomed in 2016 with a special show by GWAR. The show dubbed “Midnight in the GWARden of New Year’s Evil” featured Richmond’s very own GWAR. Fans poured into the venue wearing white so they could welcome in 2016 with the band and be covered in various colors of liquids sprayed from the stage. The night was filled with raffle give always from the band that saw fans winning everything from skate decks, t-shirts, and pint glasses from the bands GWARbar.
The show also featured Richmond’s own Occultist, and Kepone, as well as Rocket Queen a Guns –n- Roses cover band. Seeing GWAR live is an experience to say the least, but seeing them play on New Year’s Eve in their hometown is icing on the cake.
GWAR took to the stage at 10:45 and played thru to 2016 only taking a break to ring in the New Year with a countdown that ended with blood and confetti being sprayed on the crowd. Overall I couldn’t have thought of a better way to bring in 2016.
