I recently had the chance to get an early listen at Dope’s highly anticipated 6th studio album, “Blood Money, Part 1” and is the band’s first album in 7 years. To say, “This is definitely a Dope album’ would be an understatement. This particular album embodies who the group is from inception to modern day.

“Confessions of a Felon” is a pretty straight forward intro that opens up for “Blood Money”. “Blood Money” needed a couple of plays in order for me to hop on board. As true to the Dope brand, it contains very straight forward lyrics that spell out what “Blood Money” is.

“Shoulda Known Better” opens up with hard hitting drums, guitars and continues with a bit of an electronic flair. This particular track is a true “shame on me”/bad relationship song.

“Lexapro” is a bit of a piano based interlude into “Hold On”. “Hold On”, which is my favorite track on the album, is probably the most radio/mainstream friendly song on the entire track. It opens up with incredible guitar riffs. It is the first song that instantly got stuck in my head.

1999 which is the band’s most recent release prior to the full-release of the Blood Money –Part 1, is a tribute to when the band released its first full album Felons and Revolutionaries.

“Razorblade Butterfly” is what you could call a love song of sorts if you could call a metal/hard rock song a love song. Following up is “Drug Music”, which has very interesting lyrics depicting a “love for music”.

A New Low and Hypocrite are both very catchy tracks that definitely deserve some attention when listening to this album.

The album rounds out with a few more tracks including “Selfish”, which is a track that was actually released in 2014, but is making its full debut via the Blood Money album.

The album will be released on October 28th via eOne Music. Fans can Pre-Order the record, along with a plethora of bundle packages, meet and greets, and exclusive new merch designs at www.DopeTheBand.com.

Dope is currently on their Revolver Magazine sponsored “Die Mother Fucker Die” Reunion Tour, featuring support from the bands Flaw and Motograter and is definitely a show you do not want to miss. The Dope reunion tour features the classic line up of Edsel Dope, Acey Slade, Virus, & Racci Shay, who have not performed together in about 15 years. The U.S. portion of the tour goes until October 30th with the final show at the legendary Whiskey A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.
